When I plan my weekly workouts, I always try to make sure I have a run or weight training on Monday.

Why Monday? Starting the week with a race sets the tone and example for the rest of the week.

You start the week the way you want the rest to continue.

Running on Monday is also useful if you know you want to get in a number of races during the week.

This means you start the week with this one already under your belt. Feeling the sense of accomplishment so early in the week gives you a boost in motivation and confidence that you can build up all week.

Less likely to eat poorly during the week

On the other hand, if you are like me and have a hard time eating well and not cheating on a diet, I find that I am always less likely to eat poorly during my week if I started it with a run followed by ‘a good meal.

In addition, social events are less likely to be scheduled on a Monday evening.

So your race night is unlikely to be derailed by a last minute invitation to dinner. You can hit the gym without feeling like you’re missing out on something. And, let’s face it, Mondays can be stressful! Running is a great stress reliever and a great way to help you deal with the challenges of a new week. Hope you have a great race next Monday!
