Are you the traditional runner who swears by his jogging pants or cotton tank top? Or the one who likes to try new products in order to improve more actively and get results faster? If you are the latter, then you must be served with the technological advancements of the last decade.

The world of jogging technology is constantly evolving and creating new and advanced accessories to push our limits, train effectively, prevent injuries and recover faster. Some work without questioning, just by trying them on, for example a pair of running shoes and synthetic clothing.

But when are compression stockings? Seeing some runners doing their fashion show in colorful compression stockings, fluorescent clothes and their trendy flash shoes, I thought to myself, well another stupid invention to look good and show that we are real runners! I still wondered about these famous compression stockings.

Features and Benefits

The concept is simple, the compression promotes blood circulation in the calf and ankle. The stockings serve the calf in order to keep constant pressure on the arterial walls, so as to relax them and increase the circulation of oxygen-rich blood by up to 40%. The calculator says, more oxygen = better performance and recovery.

That’s not all, the section around the ankle is progressively tighter in order to decrease the diameter of the veins in order to propel the deoxygenated blood to the heart.

The CoolMax synthetic materials in the stockings also have a cooling effect when wet. This would regulate the temperature of the legs in order to increase performance.

A study by Technische Universitat Dresden has shown that CEP compression stockings increase performance by 5%. So for any athlete who wears the socks in the 4 hour marathon, that means a 12 minute break!

For long distances, athletes reduce effort by around 6% while effectively reducing muscle fatigue. So you can run longer without extra effort.

When it comes to recovery, wearing CEP stockings increases blood circulation by 30%. Which is very significant in order to recover faster. You will therefore be able to prevent many injuries if you follow a strict training program.

Injury prevention

Here are some injuries that can be avoided by running with CEP compression stockings:

  • Tibial periostitis
Reduce vibrations, increase oxygen and promote healing.
  • Calf cramps
Increases oxygen to optimize muscles, eliminates lactic acid.
  • Achilles’ heel
Increases oxygen to the Achilles, cushioned tissues to prevent damage.
  • Stretched muscles
Increases blood flow to increase heat in the muscles.
  • Travel questions
Graduated compression prevents venous reflux and pooling.

CEP 2.0 compression stockings test

Even while doing my research to learn more about this technology, I had serious doubts so I decided to try a pair. Luckily the guys at EntrixSport recommended a standard black pair for me to try.

First, it’s quite a challenge to get on your feet for the first time! It’s so tight, because you have to take the right size since there are 4 for men and 4 for women. Once on my legs, I found it strangely comfortable. I don’t have the molded clothes, but I felt how it could keep my calf muscles in place. It drastically reduces the rebounding of the muscles.

So I started with a long, not too fast race to really see what it feels like. I didn’t see much difference at first, but as I warmed up I felt a muscle comfort that I hadn’t felt before. Where I really haven’t is that at some point during my long runs, around mile 15, I’ve been feeling chills in my calves for a while, but now nothing at all, it’s like if I were at the 5th kilometer! I started to have less doubts about the product when it repeated every time I ran with the socks on and off.

To try these socks on better, I also did some performance tests with fast runs and different shoes. I understand that some people haven’t run enough to make a difference with or without, but after years of jogging, intense runs, intervals, grades and tracking our performance, you learn from experience to feel the races that go faster, slower, more comfortable, where you feel good, fit or excel.

Vary with and without my intense runs, my times were better with than without, but not just that, my amazement was how better I felt with it. You know that feeling of muscle fatigue when you push yourself to the limit and your legs want to let go, it is prolonged when I was running with the stockings on.

Regarding the recovery component. I believe this can help people recover faster. For my part, it is very rare that my recovery amounts to more than a day so I am not able to conclude a result regarding their recovery benefit. On the other hand, I took the opportunity to wear them when I work on the computer and I like how I feel with them.

Conclusion

“Thumbs up”! After several months of trying, I tried to run with, without, quickly, slowly and with different shoes in order to see them from all angles. I approve of this product and would continue to use them except for testing certain shoes as the combination of the two may affect some observations.

Where to find them?

They are available in several colors, sizes and formats (with foot or calf sleeve only). They are available online at the EntrixSport website and prices range around $ 59.99.

Is it a worthwhile investment? When you pay between $ 10 and $ 15 for a pair of jogging bottoms, I don’t see the problem with investing more in a product that makes a difference. In addition, for all those who like to “flash” with brilliant colors, you will be served with the colors offered by CEP. Good race !
