I recently received an email from a novice runner who is in his first week of the “8 weeks to start running”. She missed a day of training and wanted to know if she should start over or continue her program where she left off.

It’s easy to get discouraged if you’re busy or sick and miss a day, or days, of a training program.

Don’t beat yourself up for missing a race, life goes on.

You aren’t going to suddenly lose all of your fitness because you missed a workout!

So don’t feel the pressure to add it during your workout or double the number of workouts. Follow it where you left off and regain your momentum by getting back on track.

Just try to get back to your calendar as soon as you are able to.

Because we all know how quickly a day or two off can turn into a week, then two weeks, and then you get to a point where you feel totally unmotivated to come back to racing.
