When you started the race, Did you have someone who helped you, acted as a mentor to guide you through your fitness process? He or she may have given you information on running shoes, where to run, or perhaps gone for a run with you to show you the right technique. Whatever, every new runner had to go through it.

If you have some experience with running now and are comfortable sharing your knowledge, you might want to help a new runner of your choice.

Offer your advice for free to a friend or family member who is new to racing.

If they’re looking for help (some can be fine on their own), you can provide your novice runner with some basic jogging tips and knowledge, and even more important, encourage him to persevere and even participate in a race with him.

Consider going for some errands with your beginner.

While running with him or her is not physically difficult for you, watching a new runner get worked up on jogging will allow you to renew your own motivation to run. In addition, without realizing it, you will be brushing up on some running techniques and strategies that you have forgotten over time, so this will improve your jogging as well.

There is nothing like helping someone to surpass themselves.

I will always remember the first half marathon I ran with someone who couldn’t run 15 minutes. All the efforts she had to put in and the pleasure of having witnessed the change, I was more touched to have been there, than in my first marathon alone.

Paying forward is the thing, for me today, that gives the most meaning to a passion.
