Many marathoners have a story about a marathon spectator who wanted to strangle in the middle of their run. Sometimes it’s just a spectator who decides to cross the street in front of the runners, causing them to brake or dodge around him. Or, it’s a person yelling at the runners at mile 26; “You are almost there.”

But for every tiring and unappealing spectator, there are those who can turn your run into a dime and inspire you not to let go. For me, it was a family with two children who offered their water at kilometer 33, and the little boy told his father; “I want to be like him Daddy.” Or, the woman at kilometer 39 showing a written sign; “You are all heroes. ”

If you’ve ever run a marathon, you know how important a crowd is to help you out. I will always remember my first marathon on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, I cried with joy at having made it to this starting line. I couldn’t help but cry whenever I experienced the cheers of the spectators. And that feeling came back to every crowded street corner of encouragement, but especially the three times that I saw my parents cheering on other runners with heart.

The spectators provide a lot more than support to the runners, they provide a form of motivation to want to take one more step, even more when you get to the 41st kilometer and you hear this monster crowd screaming louder and louder up the line. of arrived… There are unfortunately no words to describe this… you have to live it.
